The oldest town in the bay
Risan was Rhizon in antiquity, and the whole bay once took its name from it. Remains of a Roman villa with floor mosaics, among them the well-known mosaic of Hypnos, the god of sleep, lie in the middle of the town. Today Risan is a compact place with a square, a waterfront and a town beach, and mountains rising steeply behind it.
The town sits at the northern end of the bay. The coast road leads to Perast and Kotor in one direction and to the Herceg Novi side in the other, and a mountain road climbs from Risan inland towards Grahovo and Nikšić.

Flats are one of the two main groups on offer. You will find apartments in older buildings near the centre, units in newer residential projects and some homes close to the water.
